Refrigerator Repair Tips
What You Need To Know
To lower the chance of an expensive repair, Proper upkeep and care is key to keeping your refrigerator running for years of hassle free service. Improper usage will cause your refrigerator to work too hard by using more electricity to keep the same food cold than if properly maintained. By following these tips, you can prolong the lifespan of your refigerator and avoid a visit from us here at Nashville Appliance Repair, even though we're the best to have around!
Ship Your Refrigerator
Upright!
Your refrigerators must always ship upright. Placing the unit on it's
side may cause a coolant leak that will prevent cooling. Placing a
refrigerator on its back could cause damage or rupture the condenser coils.
Put It In The Right
Place
Position your refrigerator away from heat sources like your range,
a radiator, or a sunny window. Be sure the unit can "breathe"
To prevent overheating and causing a system failure, do not place the refrigerator
near anything that can restrict the airflow to the motor, coils
and compressor. Also, do not place refrigerators on top of carpeting
or rugs because most condensers are located under the refrigerator
and carpeting retains heat, causing the compressor to work harder.
Do Not Put It In The
Garage
When the air temperature goes below 60 F, the refrigerator's compressor runs less,
keeping temperatures in the refrigerator compartment cold enough
for fresh food but not cold enough in the freezer compartment to
keep food quality there. At air temperatures below 40 F, the compressor
stops running, so the freezer compartment rises to air temperature
and food thaws and spoils. Also below 32 F, water melted during
the automatic defrost cycle may freeze again and block air passages.
Do Not Use Cheap Extension
Cords
Always plug the refrigerator directly into the wall to avoid burning
out the compressor. If you absolutely need to run an extension chord,
make sure a heavy duty, 3-pronged cord, such as a shop cord. Usually,
the thicker the cord, the better. NEVER use a lamp cord!
Get Rid Of Dust!
Sweep or vacuum dust and other debris under and around your refrigerator
to promote good airflow and temperature.
